The disconnect these MAGA people have is hard to wrap one’s head around. I truly understand the frustration an older person might have. They live on a fixed income, costs for utilities and food rise. Their Medicare doesn’t fully cover the rising costs for their healthcare and medications. They care that government programs not be wasteful. All of that is understandable. But, how do they come to meetings where public school districts painstakingly account for their funding and expenses, record in public documents their successes and failures, and are accountable to voters through an elected and unpaid governing board and discern any issues with unfettered voucher expansion, private for-profit charter management companies and hidden budgets and student scores for private schools?
Per FOIA, Gilbert Christian private school has received $4.5 million in voucher money. What does their headmaster earn annually? What are their 3rd grade proficiency scores? Can you readily find their reading lists, curriculum and budgets?
Their concern over how tax payer money is spent is valid. The problem is that their anger and distrust of public school districts are misplaced. And, I’m at a loss. How does one get these people to understand the facts? Are they truly ignorant or knowingly just being complete turds. I think, sadly, they are just turds.
