Oy vey, Secular Fam, I’m tired! It may be the fact that I only got about five hours of sleep last night, or it may be because of [gestures broadly] all of this…
How are you doing? Lately I’ve realized that I’m falling into two states of being: lean and lift. When I’m in “lean mode” it means I need to lean on others. Like, I’m barely surviving and I need to lean on my friends and loved ones. When I’m in “lift mode” it means that I’m doing OK and I can lift others up who may be experiencing “lean mode” in their own lives.
All this to say: we are living through a slow coup where pimply-faced dudebros and an unchecked billionaire are destroying our government institutions and causing a constitutional crisis.
I didn’t think anyone could repulse me more than the Felon-in-Chief, but here we are.
Also, is it just me or is anyone else confused about why these cult members worship not only felons and rapists, but also billionaires? Aside from maybe Mark Cuban, who actually uses his powers for good, I don’t really think most billionaires (and millionaires for that matter) give a flying fig about everyday Americans.
In America, we lie to children from birth about the “bootstraps” and “American Dream” myths. Far too many children in this country aren’t born with boots, much less the straps. Additionally, many of these true believers stan billionaires because their prosperity gospel preachers (like F[elon]OTUS’s “spiritual advisor,” Paula White) tell them if they just pray and tithe hard enough, they’ll be wealthy too, inJesusnameamen.
It’s a real racket, and more and more of these cult members are getting elected to public office, from school boards to the White House. It’s not just Felon 47’s administration who reject the authority of the courts, policies, procedures, and laws.
It’s his cult followers too.
Some of the 🍊🤡’s biggest fangirls serve on their local school districts’ governing boards. As I observed during the longest school board meeting ever a couple of weeks ago in Peoria (PUSD), the newly elected members and President Rooks are summoning their inner 2013 Miley Cyrus, because they’re coming in like a wrecking ball!
The PUSD board meeting is tonight. President Rooks has promised to go back to reading scripture after announcing she’s appealing the lower court's decision, so once again, she’s making it all about her. Continuing with a lawsuit that has already cost the district $216,000 (plus hundreds of thousands more rejecting grant money and in frivolous public records requests) shows that it’s never been about the kids.
But I’ll get to PUSD at another time! Because I’m talking about a different cult member who “serves” on another school board who also hates rules, policies, procedures, and lawyers who understand the constitution. And she’s VERY loud about her ignorance.
If you recall, while PUSD had the loooooongest meeting ever a few weeks back, Deer Valley (DVUSD) had the shortest meeting ever. Despite the length, the meeting was jam packed with drama. But when you have the 🍊🤡’s cult members on a board, you can expect a circus.
At that chaotic meeting, President Carver reversed his prior support for Board Member, and newly-elected State Representative, Stephanie Simacek (D-LD2). He spent the intermission of that meeting rubbing elbows with a bunch of TPUSA operatives, and received a TON of harassment on social media between the meetings, so when he flip-flopped and elected brand-new Board Member Karen Pack to the vice president position, I shouldn’t have been surprised.
I mean, President Carver seems proud that he was there on J6, sooooooo…
The meeting itself was short, sweet, and routine. Board Member Fisher huffed and puffed because she doesn’t know her own board policies. She grumbled about not being able to pull things from the Consent Agenda, insisting it’s a big conspiracy to silence her. She seems to believe that all she has to do is request something be removed by emailing the board’s assistant.
So let’s break down what normal board members do.
Serious board members meet with their superintendent for a weekly one-on-one, or at least they meet with them to get clarification on the meeting agenda. Let’s say I am confused about an agenda item about facilities upgrades. I would use my meeting time with my superintendent to get clarification. I may even say to them “I’m going to pull this because if I have questions, I’m guessing others may have questions too.”
Maybe they question the budget for those facilities upgrades and want to know how the price was set. As long as they make a motion to pull that item during the approval of the meeting’s agenda, AND they get someone to second the motion. They vote to approve the Consent Agenda minus the item that was pulled. From there, discussion can take place. The members vote as they see fit, and the meeting continues. This is Boardsmanship 101, so Board Member Fisher, who has been on the DVUSD school board for years, flips her lid because she’s not following procedure, it’s clear she’s doing it for attention.
After the meeting, she took to her Facebook page to continue her disinformation campaign, and claimed that by simply emailing the board’s assistant the day before, her item should have been pulled. But that’s not how it works. And she should know that.
There’s a pattern here folks. Our school boards are the heart of our democracy (at least, what’s left of it). What we’ve seen since January 20th, 2025 at the national level is happening at every level of government, including school boards.
Steve Bannon’s “Flood the Zone” strategy (aka the “Wrecking Ball” strategy) has been embraced by many state legislatures and assemblies for years, and now, extremist boards like PUSD are implementing it. Have you noticed how FOTUS blasts a flurry of executive orders and the headlines come out, one more ridiculous than the one before? That’s a purposeful distraction from the theft taking place in front of our eyes.
You see, if we’re focused on fighting each other, we won’t notice how protections for everyday Americans are being pillaged by the Billionaire Broligarchs.
You can see this strategy on full display tonight at the PUSD meeting that starts at 4:00 PM. This meeting has become a spectacle. The Board President seems to welcome it.
I guess when your cult leader is a former reality TV star, this is the kind of “leadership” you get. So let’s do this, Secular Fam. Both PUSD and DVUSD need our attention. And TRUST! I know they aren’t the only ones. If you need some attention paid to your local school district, let us know! Even though the Washington Post no longer believes it, democracy dies in darkness.
Shine a light on the school board shenanigans happening in your community. If you’re lucky enough to be in a drama-free district, pitch in to help in an extremist district. If you need some guidance, fill out our volunteer form, and we’ll help get you plugged in. We also have a bunch of other volunteer opportunities this spring and summer, and our annual Secular Day at the Capitol is happening on March 6th, 2025.
Also, our Secular Speaker Series, aka “Rage Fridays,” happens almost every Friday at noon via Zoom, so sign up for that if you aren’t already. And as always, we exist because of the generosity of our donors, so consider becoming a member of our cause today.
Great civil conversation. Both speaking aloud what many are thinking. Just because you can, does it mean you should? And this is coming from a born-again Christian who also struggles with her tongue. There is a rise of Christian nationalism that is anything but Christ or love. I encourage true believers of the Christ to remember who we are and to walk the talk in Him. Jesus Christ is love. If one calls themself a "Christian" and yet no one sees the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control Gal 5:22 that is NOT Christ. *Keep up the great reports Jeanne. I 100% support the separation of church and state. Big government has no business forcing the Bible or Jesus on our children. Period.
I recognize your anger and hurt. I am not excusing the hateful actions by the radical religious. I am a moderate person and want to support reasonable responses to the unreasonable actions and words of zealots. I don't want you to descend to the outrages of the radical religious people. I am astounded at their hateful words, and I am not sure that it helps you to stoop to their level. So, I hope today is a better day, and tomorrow, for you. I hold you in comforting light.
